God has numbered our days, from before we were even born until the day we die.
Every day of our lives is numbered, a fact we often forget as we go through our daily routines. But God has numbered our days, from before we were even born until the day we die. As believers, we are called to seek God’s guidance and care in all things, knowing that He has already written the days of our lives in His book. In this article, we will explore various biblical verses that speak of the numbering of our days and God’s provision for us, including how we should seek His will in all aspects of our lives. Ultimately, we can trust that our superpower is in God’s hands, and that when our number is called, we will be carried by angels into the presence of our Savior.
Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou has formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God. (Psalm 90:1-2)
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. (Genesis 2:7)
Is there not an appointed time to man upon earth? are not his days also like the days of an hireling? (Job 7:1)
In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind. (Job 12:10)
Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with thee, thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass; (Job 14:5)
If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come. (Job 14:14)
The spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life. (Job 33:4)
LORD, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is: that I may know how frail I am. (Psalm 39:4)
My times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me. (Psalm 31:15)
Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them. (Psalm 139:16)
A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; (Ecclesiastes 3:2)
And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou? (Daniel 4:35)
I said, O my God, take me not away in the midst of my days: thy years are throughout all generations. (Psalm 102:24)
For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. (Acts 17:28)
Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints. (Psalm 116:15)
I used to be terrified of everything. Terrified of flying. Terrified of the ocean. Terrified of doctors and the hospital. Terrified of getting hurt and dying. Then I realized that God had already written all the days of my life in his book. He has already numbered the days of my life. That won’t change no matter what I do. He is my superpower. He makes me invulnerable until then. Now I don’t have to be terrified of anything.
Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name. (Malachi 3:16)
Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book? (Psalm 56:8)
And when that day comes that my number is called, I will be carried by angels into the presence of my savior. I’m okay with that.
“There was once a rich man who used to dress in purple and fine linen and lead a life of daily luxury. And there was a poor man called Lazarus who was put down at his gate. He was covered with sores. He used to long to be fed with the scraps from the rich man’s table. Yes, and the dogs used to come and lick his sores. Well, it happened that the poor man died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. And from among the dead he looked up and saw Abraham a long way away, and Lazarus in his arms. (Luke 16 19-31)
However, in case you think I’m crazy enough to walk in front of moving trains or jump off buildings. No! I am not, because I am sure God has factored my stupidity into his numbers. Therefore, I try to seek his will in everything I do, not just the big important religious things.
But God said unto him, “Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?” (Luke 12:20)
And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: (Hebrews 9:27)
For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: (Job 19:25-26)
It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in: That bringeth the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges of the earth as vanity. Yea, they shall not be planted; yea, they shall not be sown: yea, their stock shall not take root in the earth: and he shall also blow upon them, and they shall wither, and the whirlwind shall take them away as stubble. (Isaiah 40:22-24)
Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure: Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executeth my counsel from a far country: yea, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it. (Isaiah 46:10-11)
O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen. (Romans 11:33-36)
That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:10-11)
I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. (Revelation 1:8)
In conclusion, the fact that God has numbered our days should serve as a reminder of His provision and care for us. As believers, we are called to seek His guidance in all aspects of our lives, trusting in His wisdom and plan for us. While we may sometimes be tempted to live in fear or anxiety about the future, we can take comfort in the knowledge that our days are in God’s hands. When the time comes for us to leave this earth, we can trust that we will be carried by angels into the presence of our Savior. In the meantime, let us seek to live each day to the fullest, seeking God’s will and trusting in His unfailing love and provision.
We are living in the gospel of grace instead of under the requirements of law. The privileges we have under the gospel are greater than under the law of Moses. And, just as God rested on the seventh day, so there is a rest for the people of God. This rest is, a rest of grace, and comfort, and holiness, from the gospel because of the work which Jesus Christ did for us. Part of this rest is physical rest, which is going to be realized in the future, in heaven. But, part of this rest is spiritual rest right here and now because the only real rest for our souls is in Jesus Christ.
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” ( Matthew 11:28-30)
Now all glory to God, who is able to make you strong, just as my Good News says. This message about Jesus Christ has revealed his plan for you Gentiles, a plan kept secret from the beginning of time. ( Romans 16:25)
In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation. (1 Peter 5:10)
But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one. (2 Thessalonians 3:3)
Now may the God of peace—
who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus,
the great Shepherd of the sheep,
and ratified an eternal covenant with his blood—
may he equip you with all you need
for doing his will. May he produce in you,
through the power of Jesus Christ,
every good thing that is pleasing to him.
All glory to him forever and ever! Amen. ( Hebrews 13:20-21)
